We are excited to present our 28th annual Inside Out Steelband Festival on Tuesday, April 29th, at 7pm!
Inside Out Steelband and McCallum HS Knights of Steel will perform along with Dr. Kendall Williams and Gerion Drummerville Williams.
Dr. Kendall K. Williams is a composer, steelpan virtuoso, and music educator deeply rooted in the Trinbagonian (Trinidad and Tobago) musical culture. Dr. Williams has a strong commitment to elevating steelpan within the classical and contemporary music spheres, including through composing pieces for prominent events like the Bang on a Can Marathon and collaborating with orchestras, including the Brooklyn Philharmonic, to showcase steelpan’s versatility. He received his doctorate in music composition from Princeton University, and serves as CEO of Pan in Motion, an organization dedicated to steelpan education, advocacy, and performance, and he continues to teach and perform widely across the United States.
Gerion Drummerville Williams is one of the great soca drummers, with numerous credits to his name, and regularly drums for the Shell Invaders Steel Orchestra for Panorama. He played with Inside Out Steelband just last year for our featured concert at NSSBE, and we’re excited to welcome him back to Austin!
This concert will take place at the McCallum High School Arts Center (5600 Sunshine Drive, 78756).
This concert is free, all-ages, and open to the public, so please bring your family and friends for a night of great music!
This project is supported in part by the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin Economic Development Department.
